Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Pokémon Booster Box?

A booster box is a display box with booster packs from the same set. How many packs are in a box and how many cards are in a pack differs per language: English, Japanese and Chinese boxes are all set up differently, and for Japanese and Chinese it varies per set as well. The exact number is listed on the product page of every product.

What is the difference between an English and a Japanese booster box?

An English booster box is always set up the same way: 36 packs of 10 cards. For Japanese boxes it depends on the type of set:

A regular set: 30 packs of 5 cards
A special set, such as Pokémon Card 151: 20 packs of 7 cards
A High Class Pack, the big collector set at the end of the year: 10 packs of 10 cards

On top of that, Japanese packs contain no basic energy cards, and Japanese sets are smaller than the English ones, so you complete a set faster. The Pokémon Company does not publish official pull rates for any language. In our blog Difference between English and Japanese Pokémon booster boxes we put everything side by side.

Are Booster Boxes always sealed?

Yes, all of our booster boxes are 100% factory sealed and unopened.

Are hits guaranteed in a Booster Box?

In an English box, no: the cards are completely random and there is no guarantee of a specific card. For Japanese boxes it is different: a regular Japanese box of 30 packs almost always contains at least one Super Rare or higher, plus a couple of Art Rares and several Double Rares. The Pokémon Company publishes no official figures on this, so it is nowhere in writing, but the same pattern comes out of thousands of opened boxes. Which card you pull is always down to chance, and a Special Art Rare is never guaranteed.

How are Booster Boxes packaged for shipping?

We use sturdy shipping boxes and extra bubble wrap to ensure your booster box arrives in perfect collector's condition.

Pokémon Booster Boxes

A Pokémon booster box is a sealed box holding a fixed number of booster packs from the same set. English boxes hold 36 as standard. Because everything comes from one set, a box is the way to work towards the cards of that set on purpose rather than piecing single packs together.

The main question with a box is one you settle beforehand: are you going to open it or not? That choice rules itself out. A sealed box and an opened box are two different things in practice — once the plastic is off, the box itself is no longer what it was. Anyone planning to open looks at the number of packs per box; anyone keeping the box looks at the state of the cardboard and the sealing.

Above you will find all our Pokémon booster boxes, English and Japanese. Everything is 100% original and every product states what you get.

The difference between Japanese and English booster boxes

The two kinds you run into most are the English and the Japanese booster box. They do not differ in quality but in how they are put together, which makes the choice depend on what you want.

English booster boxes

There are three versions: the normal box with 36 packs, the half box with 18 packs, and the enhanced box with 36 packs plus a box topper — a promo card that only came in that box. Put a box topper straight into a sleeve and a toploader: it sits loose in the box and therefore takes damage faster than the packs.

Japanese booster boxes

Japanese boxes come in more formats: 30, 20 or 10 packs, and the deluxe box with only 4 packs in which each pack holds 35 cards. The biggest difference lies elsewhere: a modern Japanese box holds at least one guaranteed Super Rare or higher. An English box gives you no such guarantee. Do note what that guarantee actually says: it covers the rarity, not a specific card. A Special Illustration Rare from any given box is still a matter of luck.

If you want to open as many packs as possible, the English box is your answer. If you want certainty of at least one card from the highest rarities, take the Japanese one.
