What Pokémon tins are there?

Pokémon Tins come in all shapes and sizes. They not only look super cool, but they also always contain multiple booster packs and often extras. Below you'll find the most common types of tins:

1. Pokémon tin

This is the "normal" tin most people are familiar with. It usually features one specific Pokémon, and you also get a promo card for that one.

On average there are 4 booster packs from the same series. Sometimes there is also a coin included. In America there are also variants with a different tin shape, which often have 5 boosters to sit in.

2. Pokémon mini tin

Small but nice, mini tins contain 2 booster packs from the same series. It also often includes a coin and a sticker sheet.

3. Stacking tin

These square tins can literally be stacked on top of each other. They contain 3 booster packs and usually also a sticker sheet. Their shape makes them ideal for storing or displaying.

4. Pokéball tin

One of the nicest designs: the pokeball tin, in the shape of a real Pokéball. In this tin you will find 3 booster packs, plus often a coin or sticker sheet.

5. Collector chest

This tin box is actually a luxury lunch box full of surprises. You usually get 6 booster packs, supplemented with promo cards, sticker sheets, coins, a mini portfolio, notepad, and other fun school supplies. Perfect as a gift or for young collectors.

Why would you buy a tin?

For the promo card, in most cases. A tin holds a number of booster packs plus one card that is only issued in tins — usually a foil or full art of the Pokémon on the lid. That card does not come out of the packs, so if you want it, you need the tin.

There is another reason that gets mentioned less often. Tins stay in circulation far longer than the set the packs come from. Once a set has left the shops, tins are often still a way to get packs from that set. Do check which set is inside: that is listed with the product, because it is not always the set the tin appears to show.

And the tin itself is left over as a storage box. Bulk cards fit in it well, and plenty of collectors stand them empty on a shelf as a display.
