The story of Electivire

As you know, Electivire is the final stage of an evolution line that starts at Elekid and runs through Electabuzz. That evolution only arrived in Generation IV, which made him instantly popular at the time. Electivire radiates pure power: broad shoulders, two electric tail cables and a look you would rather not challenge. He is built for brute attacks.

According to the Pokédex, Electivire can generate electricity of more than 20,000 volts. He is often described as a living power plant. In the anime you often see him as a loyal but fierce fighter, often in the hands of strong trainers such as Paul (Shinji) in the Sinnoh region.

What we personally like so much about Electivire is that he is not just an Electric Pokémon – he feels like an evolution that really adds something. Not only more powerful, but also more menacing and tougher than his predecessors.


Evolution line and how to get him

Electivire comes from a strong line:

  • Elekid – the first form, a Baby Pokémon from Gen II.
  • Electabuzz – evolves from level 30.
  • Electivire – appears when you trade Electabuzz while it is holding an Electirizer.

That method makes him a bit more exclusive, which gives him extra value in the games and as a card.

In some spin-off games such as Pokémon GO you have to evolve Electabuzz with a special item (the Electirizer) and enough candy. Electivire is one of the strongest Electric attackers there.
