What is Scarlet & Violet – Black Bolt & White Flare?
Scarlet & Violet Black Bolt & White Flare is a set built around the theme of darkness versus light. You see that theme straight away in the design of the cards. The Black Bolt cards have a dark, sinister look with sharp, intense colours. Think of powerful Pokémon such as Charizard, Lucario and Gengar in impressive attack poses.
On the other side you have the White Flare cards. These cards literally shine. They have light, shimmering effects and feature Pokémon such as Umbreon, Mimikyu and Sylveon. The artwork here is softer, more colourful and calls up a fairytale atmosphere.
What we personally find so interesting about this set is the way the contrast between light and dark runs through both the game mechanics and the visual presentation. The set feels like a constant battle between good and evil, with Pokémon on both sides of the spectrum.

What stands out about this set is that no traditional booster boxes are being released. That is because this is a special set, comparable to earlier releases such as Shining Fates and Celebrations.
Why no booster boxes?
The focus is on exclusive products such as ETBs, binders and blisters.
The set consists of specific sub-releases, which means the cards are only available through bundles and collector sets.
That makes the set harder to complete, which can raise its collectible value.

This set is aimed mainly at Victini fans and contains a unique illustration card that is not available anywhere else.
Booster Bundle

The Booster Bundle is the only way to get hold of several booster packs at once. Because there are no booster boxes, this product is perfect for collectors who want to open more packs.
Our experience with Black Bolt & White Flare
When we heard that no booster boxes would be released for this set, we were surprised at first. But after seeing the various bundles and collector sets, we understand the choice. This approach keeps every release unique and means collectors have to pick specific products to complete their collection.
The Unova Poster Collection and the Victini Illustration Collection stand out most for us. The artwork in these sets is visually stunning and the promo cards have strong collectible value.
