But in recent years something else has been turning up on the shelves too: the Pokémon Bundles. A handy pack with several boosters, usually without any of the extras like sleeves or dice.

A lot of people wonder: when did Pokémon actually start doing these bundles? And which bundle was the very first? In this blog we give you the full overview, including release dates, original prices and tips on which bundles are worth holding on to.

What exactly are Pokémon Bundles?

As you know, bundles sit somewhere in between. You get a stack of boosters (usually 6), but without the extras of an Elite Trainer Box. No sleeves, no markers, no dice. Just the packs, neatly wrapped in cardboard. Ideal for people who are in it purely for opening cards – or for collectors after sealed bundles that do not take up much space.

The price usually sits a little below an Elite Trainer Box, which makes it an attractive option.

When did Pokémon start with Bundles?

Pokémon only started releasing bundles fairly late. The very first official Booster Bundle came with the Lost Origin set, part of the Sword & Shield series. It was released on:

Which Pokémon Bundle is popular with collectors?

Honestly, it is the first Lost Origin bundle that collectors have taken to. Simply because it was the very first official Pokémon bundle there was. Sealed copies stay reasonably scarce, because most people just opened theirs.

The Obsidian Flames Booster Bundle is picking up too, mainly thanks to Charizard ex as the chase card.

We always keep a few sealed copies of the first print of each bundle ourselves. With the popular sets in particular, like Lost Origin and Obsidian Flames, that can be a smart move over the long run.

Our advice as collectors

Are you after a fun, compact way to open or collect packs? Then a bundle is definitely a good option. We would especially recommend keeping the Lost Origin Booster Bundle sealed, simply because it was the first. That usually carries just that bit of extra collector value.

But do not forget: above all, collect what you think is great. That is what makes your collection personal and one of a kind.
