As collectors we look forward to the Pokémon Advent Calendar every year. Not because we expect rare chase cards in it, but because it is simply fun. Opening a little door every day, just like you used to. And this year? The 2023 edition certainly does not disappoint.

What exactly is the Pokémon Advent Calendar?

As you know, an advent calendar is a box with 24 little doors. Normally there is chocolate behind them, but Pokémon does it differently. You get cards, coins, stickers and other surprises. It is not a product for serious investors, but it is a perfect December experience.

This calendar is meant for counting down the days to Christmas — or for simply ripping everything open at once, the way plenty of collectors do (we admit it, we do too).

Contents of the Pokémon Advent Calendar 2023

The 2023 edition contains a mix of cards, packs and accessories. Some items are exclusive and only available in this box. The exact order differs per copy, but the contents are usually the same.

What do you get?

  • 8 foil promo cards with winter artwork
    Think of Pikachu in a hat or a snowy landscape behind Delibird. Really nice for your binder.
  • 5 regular booster packs
    Often from sets such as Silver Tempest or Brilliant Stars. No guarantee of big hits, but always fun to open.
  • 7 fun packs (3-card boosters)
    Small, but surprising. Ideal for young collectors or for a quick flip through.
  • 2 Pokémon coins
    Shiny coins with popular Pokémon. A nice extra, certainly if you play.
  • 2 sticker sheets
    Not a must-have, but nice if you have children or want to dress up your binder a little.
  • 1 keyring or Christmas ornament
    Often a wintery Pikachu or another well-known Pokémon. Perfect for the Christmas tree.
  • 1 mini notepad
    Not exciting, but handy. For notes or TCG ideas.
  • 1 code card for Pokémon TCG Live
    Always welcome if you play online as well.

Our experience and advice

We bought this calendar ourselves, mainly for the winter promos. And honestly? Those alone make it worth it. You get unique cards that are not in boosters, and that is exactly what makes this product special.

Do not expect fat pulls, though. The packs are fun, but this is about atmosphere and experience. If you are purely after hits, buy an ETB or a booster box instead.

For children this is a top gift. They get something every day, and the value is spread across different kinds of items. As a collector you can enjoy it too — especially if you are a fan of exclusive promos and Christmas themes.
