A graded slab is a card that has been assessed by a grading company and then sealed into a tamper-evident holder. The label states which card it is and what score it received, and that holder does not come off without it showing. So when you buy one you know exactly what you are getting: no doubt about the condition and no doubt about authenticity.

With One Piece something applies that no longer holds for older games: the game has only existed since 2022. The cards that are sought after now have not passed through ten years of hands, so a high score is more attainable than with vintage cards. Anyone holding a card in good shape today stands a real chance at a score that will be far harder to reach ten years from now.

Two practical reasons come on top of that. A slab is easier to trade, because a buyer does not have to take your word on the condition. And the card sits safely inside: no more scratches and no bending, and with a case around it no damage if it falls either.

Whether it is worth the cost of grading depends on the card. On a card worth a couple of euros you will not earn those costs back; on a sought-after alternate art or a tournament card it is a different story.
