The Gym Leaders get their own cards, 2000. Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge brought the Pokémon of Blaine, Brock and Giovanni, with cards that now rank among the most expensive of the early sets.

Learn more about Gym Heroes Series

Above you will find the two sets from the Gym Heroes run released in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. They revolve entirely around the Gym Leaders of the Kanto region: Pokémon were tied to their trainer, with cards such as Brock's Onix and Blaine's Charizard.

That trainer name in front of the Pokémon has rarely been used since, which makes these two sets a category of their own: the same Pokémon you know from other sets, but under a name you meet nowhere else. For anyone collecting a single Pokémon it means there may be a version in this run that you miss when searching on the ordinary name.
